Overview (Extroverted Thinking + Sensing)
The Administrator is a highly practical and streamlined individual, typically running on a high energetic charge naturally, with either a non-expressive face or a business-like, professional smile. Despite being an extrovert, in some social settings the Administrator can come across as guarded and non-enthusiastic, speaking with a matter-of-fact tone.
The Administrator can talk for hours on a topic that they deem to be necessary for the other’s professional or physical well-being. Usually the Administrator can be found in professions tied to the government, healthcare or business, and often are physicians, administrators, managers, superiors, lawyers, politicians, owners of technical businesses, and the like.
Some are also often found in culinary professions, such as restaurant owners, or any practical profession that requires logical thinking and practical acumen.
to administer (verb)
- to control the operation or arrangement of something:
The economy has been badly administered by the present government.
The local council employed five people to administer the programme.
The firm appointed to administrate the failed bank asked us to continue paying our mortgage. - to give something to someone:
administer drugs/a test: The medication was administered by someone in another room.
administer justice/a punishment: It’s up to the courts to administer justice.
administer advice/help: Training and Enterprise Councils in the rest of Britain are administering a range of help such as youth training.
administer sth to sb: This drug should not be administered to the very young.
Purpose Role: The Administrator will be in their natural element when they engage in administrative tasks and/or managerial roles that increase efficiency whilst establishing a stable well-being of the people involved.
Main Functions (Te & Si)
Similarly to the Entrepreneur, the Administrator tends to have a wide range of knowledge, typically having mentally collected a big amount of relevant factual information in various topics. This information tends to be mostly of a more realistic nature, such as factual knowledge about countries, politics, geography, history, finances.
The Administrator has a keen focus on the standards of knowledge and common procedures in their society and the world around them, hence they are often well-informed and well-adjusted people on a daily basis – at least on the surface. Whilst the Administrator may not follow all of the rules of their society, they are typically well-aware of the logical standards and try to follow or imitate them on the surface, trying not to stand out in any negative way.
They take pride in and value credentials and certifications of any kind and are quite doubtful of anyone who does not seem to possess widely acknowledgeable credentials or a proven track record. For that reason, they tend to shy away from practices or beliefs that are unfounded on either science or tradition.
Assuming the Administrator is mature enough, they are the most able at successfully delegating tasks and creating order and efficiency around them, especially in the present moment.
The Administrator is concerned with ensuring stability and security for themselves, which often manifests as them working in the same kind of profession or career for decades, having life-long habits (good or bad, such as smoking or drinking), and engaging in a healthy diet and/or workout regiment.
The Administrator tends to stay on top of any health-related trends and has the tendency to create a clean environment. This is similar to the Host, but differently from them, the Administrator is not overly concerned with creating a pleasant atmosphere, just one that is clean and free of fuss or potential pathogens.
Often the Administrator feels inclined to impart the same behaviors on their inner circle, not uncommonly in a rather pushy or demanding manner, which can be grating for people who do not value the same principles.
Strong, Unvalued Extroverted Sensing (Se)
The Administrator shares many characteristics of the Stabilizer, but one of the key differences is the high-strung and subtly forceful nature of the Administrator. The latter is much more hands-on, “on-the-go“ and influential, pushing themselves and others into behaviors they deem to be most efficient or best-suited to society’s external demands. Ironically, the Administrator devalues overly forceful and pushy behaviors in others and sees this modus operandi as a “necessary evil“ or last resort when dealing with individuals that seem to not do well in life (in their eyes). In that manner, the Administrator often comes across as the stereotypical “patriarch“ or “matriarch“, with a paternally or maternally domineering attitude with whomever they deal with.
Due to the fact that the Administrator has internalized what is the standard course of life or current statistics in the world, they are typically convinced they “know best“ what someone ought to do with themselves, especially in the areas of career and physical health. The Administrator tends to exert their force in discussions dealing with those matters, which from their point of view is the best way to take care of the other person. Doing so, they often miss out on the unique or individual characteristics of people, finding it difficult to account for such differences, especially when they deal with a “rare case“.
Like the Performer, the Administrator can be highly observant and does not miss out on people’s external appearances, but in contrast the Administrator is more focused on an appearance of health and/or professionalism, rather than mere attractiveness per se. The Administrator is often one of the people who are the most “present in the moment“, though they can also have regular moments of nostalgia or worrying about the future.
Weak, Unvalued Introverted Intuition (Ni)
The Administrator tends to look down on personal abstract meanings or beliefs that derive from no apparent source and disregards those as “woo woo“. It is also rather difficult for the Administrator to assess how present occurrences will play out in the future, which can create a good deal of stress (with the possible exception of developments in health or business). The Administrator prefers repeatable courses of action that are easy to predict, anything else tends to create strong unease.
Seeking Introverted Feeling (Fi)
The Administrator is one of those people who has the tendency to be the most insensitive towards other people and their own personal experience, often somewhat accidentally. However, they unconsciously yearn for learning the ways of how to develop a sound moral code and distinguish their personal feelings on matters, same as the Entrepreneur. They can be rather oblivious to what people feel or think on a personal level unless it is verbally spelled out for them.
Weaker, Unvalued Extroverted Feeling (Fe)
As a way to compensate for their lack of a natural inner codex, the Administrator tends to adopt the values of their society or the religion of their upbringing. (Some Entrepreneurs tend do the same.) As mentioned earlier, the Administrator often flashes a “business smile“ and comes across as talkative in social situations, but over the long run they find this rather unfulfilling – then they revert back to a serious demeanor. They are not as smooth or excitable as the Performer, but they might attempt to come across like one from time to time.
Stronger,Unvalued Introverted Thinking (Ti)
The Administrator is well-able to understand the inner workings of things, such as how a car works or how a business structure works. They also rarely make logical fallacies or mistakes. However, their factual knowledge always has the main priority, hence the Administrator won’t always go into any logical depth and may miss out on some key ingenious thinking that would actually prove to be (even) more accurate.
Aim at Extroverted Intuition (Ne)
Due to the tendency to stick with actionable behavior and tried-and-true methods, the Administrator sometimes lacks a bit in the ingenuity department. To counteract that, they enjoy learning about off-beat ideas and jokes, especially in the realm of humanities. Often they try to include a wacky joke here and there or throw a novel idea on the wall. They are impressed by people who can present a unique and metaphorical imitation of human behavior, such as the Humanist or Pundit, and may on occasion try to imitate their mode of thinking.

Note: Of course there are administrators who possess a different personality type, so please do not assume that all administrators in the world fit this personality type! I call the Extroverted Thinking + Sensing personality type “The Administrator” not only because they are usually administrators, but also because this personality structure personifies the archetype the best.

Correlations:
ESTJ (MBTI), LSE (Socionics)
Note: Both MBTI and Socionics include Big 5-related aspects in their types, especially MBTI is mostly a variation of Big 5 nowadays. My version of the Jungian types does not use Big 5 traits, hence the conventional 4-letter idea of “ESTJ” might not fully apply. Based on the letters, you might count as “ESTJ” but not as The Administrator with Te and Si as their first functions. Read this for more on this issue.
Subtypes
There are 3 specific subtype variations of the Administrator.
Those variations can be grouped into (Te) Extroverted Thinking and (Si) Introverted Sensing subtype.
Te Subtype (Classic Extrovert)
Te subtype Administrators share most of those traits:
- Stereotypically extroverted
- More interested in business or sciences
- High energy
- More ingenious and enterprising
Can be mistaken for ENTJ / LIE.
Si Subtype (Introverted Extrovert / “Ambiverted”)
Si subtype Administrators share most of those traits:
- “Ambiverted” (can be mistaken for an introvert)
- Can be more emotive and charming
- Tends to be more interested in people-centric professions
- Tends to be less mathematical or data-driven
Can be mistaken for ESFJ, ISTJ, ISFJ / ESE, SLI, SEI.
Note: Don’t mistake Jungian “ambiversion” with asociable Enneagram instinctual stackings, like Sx/Sp, Sp/Sx. If you are an extrovert with one of those stackings, you’ll come across as “ambiverted”, even if you don’t have that subtype!
No Subtype (Standard Type)
An Administrator who falls into both categories more or less is mostly likely the No subtype kind.
Enneagram Types
If you are not a Type 8 or Type 3, then you are most likely not The Administrator. But make sure you are correctly typed. You can get a typing from me here.
